June 21, 2004 Henry Bath & Son Ltd today announced the opening of its new commodity warehousing operation at Burns Harbor in the Port of Indiana, U.S.A. The location will be managed from the company's Henry Bath Inc. offices in Baltimore, MD, whilst the day-to-day warehouse operations will be performed by local logistics provider Federal Marine Terminals, Inc.
Burns Harbor, Indiana becomes the fourth Henry Bath location in the USA and seventeenth location worldwide. The Group already operates LME approved warehouses for the storage of metals and commodities in the ports of Baltimore, New Orleans and Los Angeles.
The Port of Indiana - Burns Harbor is located in Portage, Indiana, on the south shore of Lake Michigan just 30 land miles and 18 nautical miles from Chicago. The port offers year-round barge access to Midwestern markets and the Gulf of Mexico through the Inland Waterway System as well as direct access to the Atlantic Ocean via the St. Lawrence Seaway. The Port is able to accommodate Great Lakes bulk carriers up to 1,000 feet in length and saltwater vessels capable of transiting the locks on the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway system. The facility is served by 12 modern shipping berths capable of accommodating Ocean Vessels, Inland Barges and Lake Vessels.
Rail services to the facility include Norfork Southern, CSX, E.J. & E and Indiana Harbor Belt railroads. The FTZ classified warehouse also has Interstate highway connections to I-65, I-80, I-90, and I-94.
Henry Bath & Son Ltd are currently seeking an LME Chicago listing for the Burns Harbor operation that will permit the warehouse to issue LME warrants against the exchange's contracts for North American special aluminium alloy (NA380.1), primary aluminium, copper, zinc, lead, nickel and tin stored at the new facility.
